Cheryl joined the team in 2004 as minister for Education & Outreach and has recently transitioned into the role of Lead Minister for Pastoral Care. She has a background in curriculum development and worked in the field of religious publishing before coming to work in the church.
Her path into ministry is born out of a lifetime of church involvement that has shaped her and encouraged her gifts. Both of her parents were ministers; her mom, who was also a lay minister, was a very important influence in her life.
While there is a program of study that lay ministers normally undertake, Cheryl’s training ground was as part of the curriculum development team for The Whole People of God, an internationally-recognized lectionary-based curriculum. The influence that being part of this team had on her was significant and still underpins a lot of her ministry and leadership style. Cheryl loves to collaborate in teams and finds working with others sparks creativity.
Cheryl is a parent to three children and shares that privilege with her partner David Bertetic. As a family they love to cook and eat together, play board games, and travel. In her spare time she likes to read, write, and watch movies.
